Bologna defender Aaron Hickey has admitted tha the is aware of specualtion linking him with a return to Scotland to join Celtic – but insists his “full focus” is on continuing to impress in Italy.
Hickey is one of a number of players linked with a move to join the Hoops as Ange Postecoglou gets to work trying to win the title back from bitter rivals Rangers.
Despite the interest from Celtic in Hickey, who was named on the longlist for the Golden Boy award this year, the talented defender wasn’t giving anything away when he was quizzed about it by Gordon Smart on Scotland HQ, saying: “Well I am fully aware that there has been interest.
“I can see it all – but I have just got to keep my head down and keep my full focus on Bologna just now.”
Hickey could make a big impact at Celtic
Although he missed out on a place in Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad for Euro 2020, the former Hearts defender will likely have a key role to play for his national side in the future.
With plenty of options at left-back, he faces a fight to get into the squad in the short-term and a return to Scotland could help his chances.
With Greg Taylor likely to go into the season as first-choice unless a new signing arrives, Hickey would be coming in to fight for a regular place in the starting XI.
