Leeds United fans have reacted to rumours that Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish won’t start for England today.
The Villa playmaker has drawn a lot of opinion from fans over the years, especially those donning the colours of Leeds, which stems back from their days in the Championship.
But ahead of England’s Euro 2020 opener against Croatia today, the Leeds fans cannot believe the Villa playmaker will be on the bench at Wembley.
The Athletic report that Gareth Southgate has opted to play a back four, with two holders, including Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips.
It seems as though Kieran Trippier will be at left-back and not one of Luke Shaw or Ben Chilwell, who are naturals in that position – one just won the Champions League and the other was Manchester United’s Player of the Season.
But whatever suits you, Gareth!
And with Grealish chasing two spots, the number ten and wide left, it seems as though an extra defensive player, Mason Mount, Raheem Sterling and Phil Foden have beaten him to those areas.
Back in December, Grealish told Sky Sports that he didn’t understand why he gets ‘stick’ from Leeds fans.
Well, he’s getting none of that now and it just shows how much he has progressed that the seemingly ‘stick’ he received from Leeds fans has now turned into shock that he’s not starting for his country in their Euro 2020 opener.
Grealish produced a stellar campaign in Villa colours this season and was equally impressive during England’s recent friendlies.
But Southgate clearly has other ideas.
