Andros Townsend told the Daily Star that reported Arsenal target, Raheem Sterling, is ‘definitely world-class’, along with the likes of Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford.

The Manchester City speedster will be heading to Euro 2020 this summer hoping to win some silverware with England, as his name gets linked with Arsenal amongst that chaos.

The Daily Mail claim that given that Sterling has fallen out of favour at the Etihad, it has led to Mikel Arteta wanting to sign him at Arsenal.

Crystal Palace winger, Townsend, was talking about England’s forward line and how they could possibly bring the likes of Rashford, Sancho and Sterling off the bench at Euro 2020, and how highly he rates those players.

“The positive is that when it comes to 60 minutes, you’ve got the likes of Raheem Sterling, Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford (to come off the bench),” said Townsend.

“Imagine being out on your feet and having to contend with that lot?

“Even in 2018, and we had a good 11, but did we really have that many world-class players to change things up if we needed to? I don’t think so.

“Sancho, Rashford and Sterling are definitely in that world-class category. One or two tired defences are about to understand why over the next few weeks.”

Given that Arteta worked with Sterling before, it’s understandable why he would want to bring the £49 million star (BBC Sport) to the Emirates.

But is he a player that Arsenal absolutely need? The answer is, most likely, no because other areas, such as midfield and defence, need fixing first.

And given that the very much unliked, Kroenke’s, aren’t big spenders, never mind Sterling wanting to join Arsenal himself, it would be a shock if they seriously pushed the boat out this summer, anyway.

When it came to the European Super League, the American owners were quick to jump on that bandwagon, but when it comes to lifting Arsenal from the mess they are in, it won’t be surprising if they continue to remain silent.
