Simon Jordan has debunked the claims on talkSPORT that Antonio Conte didn’t become Tottenham manager because of the club’s youth players.
It’s been nearly two months since Tottenham parted ways with Jose Mourinho, yet no new face is yet to walk through the doors of the North London club.
Rumours suggested that Conte was high on Tottenham’s wishlist, but talks between both parties broke down over various issues, including concerns about his high demands and reluctance to use the club’s youth.
But former Crystal Palace owner, Jordan, defended Levy after Conte wasn’t handed the keys to Tottenham’s stadium.
“Do you genuinely believe that Daniel Levy is so stupid,” asked Jordan. “And so obscure in his thinking that he believes that the youth team at Tottenham are going to be capable of putting them back into the top four?
“So, then why is that narrative being peddled out? It’s part of the reason why Conte isn’t going to come because Daniel told him ‘you don’t have to win anything’.
“If a guy is sitting there and being ridiculous. And because his currency is so high, he is pushing it, and pushing it and pushing it. You get to the point ‘alright now. Am I ever going to work with this fella?’.”
As the days tick by, the situation will get worse for Levy in North London and the frustration from the fans will only grow.
And it won’t be helped if the likes of Crystal Palace, Wolves and Everton, all appoint managers before them.
A number of weeks ago, it seemed as though the gloom was going to be lifted across the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with the arrival of Conte.
But now that seems dead in the water and Spurs, two years after sacking Mauricio Pochettino, find themselves in a mess with no light at the end of the tunnel.
