Speaking on the Official England Podcast, Harry Kane has been waxing-lyrical about Manchester City youngster Phil Foden.
The Tottenham star is of course with Foden at the moment on international duty, and he’s clearly been very impressed by what he’s seen from the youngster this season.
What’s been said?
Foden has been hyped up as one of England’s most important players heading into this tournament, so inevitably, Kane was asked to give his opinion on the Manchester City ace.
“Yeah, Phil is great. He loves football, he loves being on the pitch, he loves just getting onto the ball and expressing himself, and you see that as he’s been playing in the last few years and he’s improved,” Kane said.
“His game understanding is better, his final product is better and we all know how good he is when it comes to dribbling past players. He’s taken confidence in his game and he’s learning. This will be the first major tournament and he may need some help now and then, but when he’s on the pitch he’s fearless and he just wants to express himself.”
England’s great hope
If England are to do anything at the Euros this summer, Foden may be key to the Three Lions’ quest.
The Man City man has proven himself to be one of Europe’s most talented players this season, and when he’s at his best, he’s almost unplayable.
As Kane says, this is Foden’s first tournament, so he may end up being a little overwhelmed, but after playing in a Champions League final last month, it’s hard to believe that anything would affect this young man.
