Jose Mourinho has raved about West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice in The Times.
The former Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United manager has outlined what makes Rice such a good player.
Mourinho has high hopes for the 22-year-old, who can also play as a central defender, for England at the Euro 2020 finals.
The Portuguese told The Times about Rice: “First of all, I like the boy. I like what he shows me. He is mature, calm, a team player who doesn’t think about himself. He always has the correct answers and gives incredible stability to the team.
“It is one thing to play in the qualification phase, where you play against teams where you don’t need balance to beat any team 5-0, but when you get to the final phases you play against good teams with good attacking players and then you need balance. A team without balance is not a team. Rice is this kind of player.
“If you have a good back four or back three with a player like Rice in front, England can have more attacking freedom.”
Mourinho is one of the best managers in the world.
The former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss has worked with some of the best players in the world.
Mourinho praising Rice so highly shows just how good the West Ham star is.
The 22-year-old is one of the best young players in the Premier League.
Rice will be part of the England squad for the Euro 2020 finals this summer.
England head coach Gareth Southgate is likely to include Rice in the starting lineup.
Rice made 32 appearances in the Premier League for West Ham this past season.
The youngster scored two goals and gave one assist in those games.
