Tottenham have been handed a boost in the race to secure Antonio Conte’s signature because Real Madrid deem him to be ‘too abrupt’ to appoint, according to a report.
Spanish outlet AS claim that, whilst Conte being Madrid’s next coach cannot be ruled out, they don’t think his style or methods match their philosophy.
Surely that will be music to Tottenham’s ears, who are keen to add the one-time Premier League winner to their ranks.
Conte is a free agent after leaving Inter last month, where he helped them win the Serie A title for the first time in 11 years.
Whilst Mauricio Pochettino has also been muted as becoming Tottenham’s next boss once again, Conte’s name is also gathering pace.
Spurs fans will be well aware of what Conte is like in the dugout after seeing him work his magic across London when he was last in England.
With a squad of players either deemed not good enough or ageing, Conte changed Chelsea’s system and won them the Premier League title before seemingly falling out with those in the boardroom.
Tottenham fans would love the 51-year-old to turn their fortunes around because they are pretty desperate for some success after two seasons of decline.
Given that Madrid will also be hunting for a new manager, it does put Spurs on the back foot because if those in Spain want the man Daniel Levy is looking at then he will end up losing out.
So, those in the Spurs boardroom have to act fast in securing the signature of their next coach because he might just slip from the grasp of their hands.
