Rob Dorsett has shared on Sky Sports News on Tuesday afternoon that recent West Ham loanee and Manchester United star, Jesse Lingard, is set to be axed for England’s Euro 2020 squad.

The Sky reporter shared that the Manchester United academy product, who enjoyed a fruitful spell on loan at West Ham this season, ‘didn’t look too upset’ whilst training with England on Tuesday morning.

Gareth Southgate will name his 26-man squad for the delayed Euros later on this afternoon, with Lingard one of the players at risk at bring axed.

Well, the rumours suggest that Lingard may well be watching the Three Lions from the comfort of his own home this summer, rather than being out on the field.

“We have some developing news for you,” said Dorsett. “We said that the midfield was going to be an issue where Southgate was going to have to make quite a few cuts from this 33.

“We understand that it’s Lingard who is going to miss out. Now, that doesn’t mean that Bellingham or Ward-Prowse will be picked. There is still a debate to be had. Southgate might drop both of those or one of those.

“But the news we have is significant that Lingard is expected to be omitted. I don’t think that comes as a huge surprise, though.

“Interesting to see, he didn’t look too upset, did he? We saw him training earlier on. They are all in high spirits the England players, so that has left us debating how many of them know yet?”

England have a plethora of talented players to pick from in midfield and in the attacking department.

Many would argue that Jack Grealish, Phil Foden and Mason Mount, who recently won the Champions League, are all ahead of the quick-footed playmaker.

But given that Lingard only earned his England recall in March, it does seem to have come a bit late for the player because others have been ahead of him for some time now.

If Lingard is axed then it’s important that he uses this as fuel to continue playing regularly again next season and return back into that England fold for good.
