Matteo Guendouzi remains a divisive figure among Arsenal fans, but Hertha Berlin supporters seem to love him.
The 22-year-old issued a lengthy farewell to the Bundesliga club on Thursday.
Guendouzi, who joined Arsenal three years ago, had a season-long loan in Germany last term and seemed to impress, until suffering a season-ending injury toward the end of the campaign.
Here’s how some Hertha fans responded to the Frenchman’s goodbye:
The former Lorient midfielder is heading back to North London but it probably won’t be for long.
According to L’Equipe, the controversial star, who has reportedly fallen out with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, has agreed to join Marseille in Ligue 1.
It’ll be fascinating to see how he fares back in his homeland but it wouldn’t surprise many if he was a big success.
As we’ve seen, Hertha fans rate the player very highly and that’s because Guendouzi remains a hell of a major talent.
It hasn’t worked out at Arsenal but this is more about a number of clashes with Arteta than anything regarding his ability, which has never been questioned after bursting on to the scene under Unai Emery in 2018.
But the way in which fans of the German club have wished him well is perhaps indicative of a more grounded, more mature player and time will tell whether the Gunners kick themselves.
