Roy Keane told ITV Sport that reported Aston Villa target, James Ward-Prowse, had a ‘very good season’ at Southampton during the 2020/21 Premier League campaign.
The England international was unlucky to miss out on a place in Gareth Southgate’s 26-man squad for Euro 2020, even after Trent Alexander-Arnold was injured.
But as the set-piece specialist receives that bad news, rumours have emerged that Aston Villa might pounce for his talents.
Ex-Villa coach, Keane, shared these brief comments about the Englishman, whilst Ian Wright also made positive comments about the player.
“We know he’s a good professional,” said Keane. “He’s had a very good season at Southampton.”
“James Ward-Prowse is that midfielder he’s tigress,” said Wright. “There are not many England players, who I have seen in an England shirt, who are getting in and winning balls as he does.
“He’s around people. He’s got 100% possession in terms of passing. And he’s one of those that chases it down. And then his delivery is fantastic.”
After Emi Buendia, if Villa can bring in Ward-Prowse then they would seriously be making themselves known to the rest of the Premier League.
Given that Jack Grealish is the most fouled player in Europe, it’s pretty wise and logical bringing in Ward-Prowse’s dead-ball talents.
Plus, he has the intelligence and legs to play in a midfield two, and whilst he doesn’t carry the ball like a Grealish, his use of the ball is very productive, not forgetting the aggression he presses with.
All of that would be welcome at Villa Park and it would be a dream start to the summer transfer window for those in B6.
